I am overjoyed this image was selected; it symbolizes and represents so much more for me. It was made during quarantine and it’s a part of a body of work called:

“Inside - The year we all went in.”

The image is of my son but underneath the surface, it is a self-portrait. A memory of myself and my many frog friends. Growing up, children my age at the lake were few and far between. So, I had a vivid imagination and an even bigger FISH TANK! Tadpoles, crawdads, tree frogs, toads, pretty much anything that moved, and I could catch went in that tank. Except bullfrogs- those I was only allowed to keep in the bathtub for one night and then release the next morning.

My dad kept it right on the kitchen counter where the kitchen and living room were divided (Most would use that space as a breakfast bar, but he was unlike most). He was as proud of it as I was. When guests came over, he would show them all the creatures that lived with us, around us and often just out of sight. These memories I hold near and dear to my heart. Seeing that same wonder in my sons’ eyes - warms my heart.
