Street Encounters November 27 - February 21, 2021

Today is the Opening Exhibition of Street Encounters in conjunction with Vivian Maier: The Color Work, at the Arlington Museum of Art. If you have not heard of Vivian Maier and her fascinating secret life as a photographer, I highly recommend the documentary, "Finding Vivian Maier". What an incredible honor to have my image, “Sunday Best” chosen in the spirit of Vivian Maier. And to be awarded 3rd place is really the cherry on top. Heartfelt thank you to Paula Tognarelli, Executive Director and Curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography and the Texas Photographic Society. I cannot express my gratitude enough for this incredible honor, I am so humbled. And of course congratulations to all 50 photographers. I wish I could toast everyone at an opening reception but consider this a glass raised in the air to all of you!

Unbeknownst to Paula my image was made in Chicago where Vivian's photographic legacy was made. Furthermore, we both lived in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago. We actually were only 5 miles or less away from each other when she was living in Winnetka, 50 years ago more or less.

“Well, I suppose nothing is meant to last forever. We have to make room for other people. It’s a wheel. You get on, you have to go to the end. And then somebody has the same opportunity to go to the end and so on.”
